- In 2005, Texas had 12,412 children placed in foster
care. In 2006, the number increased to 17,536.
Children are removed from their families and placed into foster care
at a growing rate, yet it is an issue that remains undiscussed or unrecognized. Their future depends on our actions now!
- In 2006, Tarrant and Dallas Counties had 5,059
children in foster care, but only had 334 registered foster and foster/adopt homes.
The number of children placed in foster care is growing
while the number of foster homes are decreasing - leaving no place for them to go. Alternative placements are safe houses,
church orphanages, mental facilities, or homeless shelters. Caseworkers often have to rotate shifts sleeping over at the CPS
office or in hotels with children left unplaced.
- The profile of an average foster child is a girl
between the age of 1-3 removed from her home due to neglectful supervision - usually from their mother.
Foster Faith Network is a Christ-centered organization whose goal
is to increase awareness on the issues involving our foster care system in Texas, and to inspire people to become involved.
- In 2006, the state of Texas had 13 children die
from abuse or neglect while in foster care.
We don't need to look far to find a mission field in need, there
are over 5,000 "fatherless" in need of love and support in our own backyard. How can you help make a difference?
